In his book Mens in zijn ruimte (Humans in their space) Karel Bodegom decribes his approach to interior design projects and his professional philosophy as the owner and manager of his design store, interieurwinkel Bas van Pelt. Bodegom created the book in collaboration with Paul Scholte (Peanutsch) and Mizja Haak (Colorativa).
The book is an intimate document. Bodegom interviews Bodegom: about possibilities, desires, ideas, feelings, opinions, and views – and about the lines and diagonals connecting them. He clarifies how he intends to change interior design and architecture from within in order to prepare for their future role. The book’s design, with the use of gelatin print, creates true-to-life images; the viewer is taken on a pleasant stroll through a kitchen, living room and workspace.
Interieurwinkel Bas van Pelt has a long history
Interieurwinkel Bas van Pelt has a long history. In 1931, Bas van Pelt (1900-1945) became the owner of ‘My home woninginrichting’. He succeeded in creating an attractive store by presenting contemporary interior designs exclusively. Over time, My home/Bas van Pelt became a distinguished name in design.
They did more than sell interior design products: they were effectively involved with changing interiors. Their rather delicious mixed-oeuvre of furniture design and interior architecture was ahead of the times. In 1956, the company name was changed to Bas van Pelt binnenhuisarchitectuur b.v. Karel Bodegom took over the business in 2000 and continued to express Bas van Pelt’s philosophy and style.
